In line with the Borough’s vision, 1,400 square metres of HydroSTON permeable pavers were integrated into the car park. Manufactured in Australia with leading-edge permeable concrete technology, HydroSTON allows water to infiltrate through the pavement directly into the ground, reducing runoff and helping to protect the adjacent bay from pollutants. The design also plays an important role in supporting the long-term health of the park’s trees and vegetation by maintaining natural moisture levels in the soil. The paver model selected for this project was the HydroSTON H80, a robust solution suitable for the heavy vehicle and boat-towing traffic in the area. HydroSTON is available in over 30 colour options, with the landscape architects responsible for the project opting for the ‘Cargo’ colour to achieve a clean and elegant aesthetic.
Besides its high infiltration rate, HydroSTON features a smooth surface suitable for wheelchair use and delivers high slip resistance. The pervious pavement can be easily maintained using a suction street sweeper vehicle. According to Better Boating Victoria, HydroSTON pavers were specifically selected to meet the demands of the site, ensuring durability, effective drainage, and long-term usability.
